Pet Hospice vs. Euthanasia

Is it time to consider Pet Hospice or Euthanasia?

Pet Hospice or palliative care is the service we provide to ease suffering and to maintain quality of life. Pain management, special diets and many other options are available to be discussed with your veterinarian.

To help you and your veterinarian make a more informed decision use the following checklist:

  • ___ My pet’s quality of life is declining. He/She is losing weight or sleeping more than he/she used to.
  • ___ My pet has difficulty getting up or laying down.
  • ___ My pet no longer seems to enjoy his/her favorite activities.
  • ___ My pet can no longer maintain his/her normal routine (i.e. walks, etc).
  • ___ My pet seems to be suffering, seems vacant, anxious, or distant.
  • ___ My pet is no longer interested in his/her regular food.
  • ___ My pet seems to be in pain. Does he/she lick, pant, whine/cry more frequently?
  • ___ My pet’s personality has changed. He/She is unpredictable, growling, nipping, or hissing when touched.
  • ___ My pet stopped drinking water.
  • ___ My pet has become incontinent, often urinates or defecates indoors.
  • ___ My pet is no longer alert, playful, or happy to see me. He/she has no energy or interest in living.
